O-Ku Greenville: Where Japanese Aesthetics Meet Southern Soul

Nestled near Greenville’s historic Main Street and the Reedy River, O-Ku Greenville brings authentic Asian cuisine with a Southern influence to the city’s vibrant culinary scene. PMC partnered with David Thompson Architect to deliver a warm, immersive dining environment that reflects the restaurant’s cultural and culinary identity.

The space, led by Executive Chef Jose Aguilar and Chef Masatomo “Masa” Hamaya, blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern Southern charm. Designed with intention and precision, the interiors feature shou sugi ban walls, custom tilework that mimics tree rings, and wood accents that echo the restaurant’s namesake—“O-Ku,” derived from the Japanese word for oak.

PMC worked closely with the design team to furnish the space in a way that enhances the guest experience. From the wooden pendant lights suspended above the bar to the curated seating and lounge arrangements, each element was selected to support the concept of omotenashi—wholehearted hospitality.

The result is a dynamic, cohesive setting where design, cuisine, and service come together to create a memorable destination in downtown Greenville.
